Things to Do in Alachua County
Museums, springs, prairie trails and small towns, organized by area.
Alachua County splits naturally into four parts. Gainesville and the University of Florida hold the museums, gardens and most of the nightlife. High Springs, on the northwest edge, is where you go for the Santa Fe River and its springs. Paynes Prairie and Micanopy, just south of Gainesville, are about wildlife, big views and antique shops, and the towns of Alachua and Newberry lead to quiet preserves and a living-history farm.
Very few bookable tours operate here, so the sections below show the handful listed by Viator and point you to our area guides for everything else. Most of the county's best experiences, from the bat flight at Lake Alice to the La Chua Trail, are free or cost only a state park entry fee.
